Rottweiler Handling

Handling a dog entails managing the dog’s movement in the manner that we desire at the time.
We will handle a dog in the manner requested depending on the type of happening ” shows or any kind of competition “
I’ll write about exterior shows and way of handling over there.

Rottweiler was presented or handled by the handler’s left side 10 or 13 years ago.
In that time I spoke to some judges and they told me “Rottweiler is strong dog and in show ring the dog must be handled by left leg, always on distance from other dogs, close to the handler and under control.
Back then dogs were different in character males were dominant, and competing in the ring with many other males was difficult.
So handling the dogs by the left leg is easier, and getting or redirecting his attention from other dogs or situation is easier when the dog is closer to us especially in motion.
Line or leash must be relaxed not tight so the dog can show his behavior, his anatomy and safety reason.

ROTTWEILER BEHAIVOR IN THE SHOW RING

The dog in show ring must show that he is obedient, well trained and socialized.
If the dog pull all the time, or handler must pull him to move or if the dog show any kind of aggression then that is something what a judge must mark as negative. We don’t know reason for bad behavior in the ring, can be bad character or temperament or a person who trained him is bad trainer.
The result is the same, bad for the dog.
The dog must move freely, that shows that the dog is feel comfortable.

LOSE OR TIGHT LEASH IN SHOW RING

Well trained Rottweiler for the show ring must be obedient in way that know and let trainer to show him in manner requested for that show type.
Dogs can’t pull on the leash or can’t be pulled, they must move beside to the handler with relaxed line including some level of leash correcting.
If the dog pull forward or if the dog is pulled to move forward, that’s totally change a picture of his anatomy. Like this the judge can’t describe the dog in good way and the judges words can be ‘’ please take the dog out of the ring or we stay in the rig but in judges opinion list we will find bad description of the dog ‘’.
The dog must move moves freely, then the judge can see realistic picture of his anatomy.

handling is a way of life

PROPARLY HANDLING OF ROTTWEILER '' SAFTY REASON

Consider motion inertia bringing the hind dog too close to the front dog and the front handler unable to move the dog for any reason.
I don’t think the handlers and dogs will be able to avoid trouble in this situation, especially when the dogs are running fast. Assume a dog male is running and starts following a male in front of him. At some point, the first one turns back on him.
“This happened quite frequently.”

OVERTAKING AND SPEEDING

Overtaking in a show ring

Some judges allow overtaking in running which is totally wrong in my opinion, because in that moment dogs can start fight very easy.
If some dog make problems to whole group, move slower than they should and make other dogs to move slower too, good judge will stop moving in the ring and change the places or simply will put way slower dog.

Speed in a show ring

Speed is not important in a dog show.
Some people believe that speed is important, but they fail to consider how their dog runs.
A judge can let two dogs in final run little faster just for but that is not what makes winner.
Trot, speed, head under 45 degrees or slightly less if the dog moves faster that’s important.
Running should not be a bouncing or light movement; the step should be strong, well-placed on the ground, and with a strong push off.
Running “faster” and walking “slower” are the two ways to move

Correct Rottweiler handling in my opinion

I prefer a method of handling that allows the dog to extend the length of his head and neck forward, but that’s all.
Assume that times have changed and that the handling method has evolved.
This is fine, and I’ve noticed that some handlers have control of the dog, and the dog does not pull or even runs in front of them.
However, I continue to believe that handling a dog in the front is incorrect.
Dogs must pay attention to the handler at all times, whether handled by the leg or up front, and must listen to his voice and commands.
Handling a dog beside the left leg is not always as should be.

Rottweilers with our training, dogs with some issues in the head ” not well socialized ” , and Rottweiler with poor anatomy who are handled by the left are frequently hanged.
It means that the handler will pull the dog up because the dog keeps putting his head down.
Bad or poorly trained dogs, as well as poor anatomy, are frequently to blame.
When we look at this handler and the dog, we can see that the dog’s front legs barely touch the ground in some situations.
We can also hear grunting and choking.
Unfortunately, some judges will reward it, which will be disastrous.
Personally, I would never allow this handler and dog to remain in the ring for more than 5 minutes. To me handler can get red card from the judge very easy because he brought totally not ready dog for show.
A similar picture of handling is where the dog pulls the handler in a circle with his head down all the time.
Today dogs learn to run in a ring with two strips, but in a show ring with one strip they make a smaller and smaller circle every time they run, because  they pull in the side of the ring.

Imagine that your dog has been trained by trainer who later show the dog on dog show in this manner.
Will you be satisfied as dog owner and paid to the trainer for dog training.
Will you regard this type of handler as professional and serious?
What you as owner can do with this dog after he come back to you ” trained ”? practically nothing.
Simply its not possible to take the dog and go on dog show, especially if you don’t have previous experience  with dogs.

On top of it a lot of bad trained dogs like in this example go to new home with CH certificate.
