ZTP breeding test for Rottweiler

ADRK e.V. Zuchttauglichkeitsprufung (summary):
A ZTP / breed suitability test is used to determine which Rottweilers are suitable for breeding and to eliminate those that should not be bred. ADRK oversees all testing, whether done in person or by groups or clubs given permission to conduct a test. Before conducting the test, each group or club must be authorized by the ADRK to do so. Furthermore, in order to conduct the testing (BST/ZTP), each judge must be confirmed and registered with the ADRK.

GENERAL GUIDELINES:
GENERAL GUIDELINES: The ZTP (BST) practical part is divided into two parts. The first part determines whether the dog’s temperament is typical of the breed; only dogs who pass are allowed to continue and participate in the second part. This part of the test uses “VPG” trials to determine the animal’s self-confidence and to observe its behavior in action. To ensure that the Rottweiler remains suitable as a service, sporting, or family dog. At the start of the ZTP, all handlers and their dogs gather in the test arena, and the judge explains the significance of this specific test method: it is a tool for preserving and strengthening the performance of the Rottweiler as a breed. The judge explains the spirit and purpose of the tests used to evaluate temperament and self-confidence, as well as the dog’s behavior while participating in activities. During this speech, all handlers must remain in the arena with their dogs.

APPEARANCE: The judge begins by describing the dog’s appearance when standing still and when gating. Even at this early stage, he can recognize first character traits. The judge then completes his picture by speaking with the owner about how the dog is cared for, how it was raised, and what kinds of environmental influences the dog is or has been exposed to. The judge then uses a special color chart to determine the exact color of the dog’s eyes and describes them in a combination of figures and letters ranging from 1a to 4a. A 4b, 5b, or 6 indicates that the dog is not suitable for breeding. To be considered as having a complete set of teeth, the dog must have two reports from different ADRK judges (issued, for example). At the time of issue, the dog had to be at least 8 months old. The ruling only applies to incisors and canines; molars are exempt.

INTERFERING FACTORS
The dog’s sensitivity to noise is tested in a quiet environment, as well as how the dog reacts to people who are quiet. While the dog is walking towards the group of people, the judge fires two shots at least 5 seconds apart. If the dog reacts to the first shot, it must recover immediately, and the handler will be instructed by the judge to release the dog and make it sit. The routine for testing the dog’s reaction to noise can then be resumed. The dog will be disqualified if it startsle again. Dogs who are overly sensitive to noise will fail the ZTP.
